Allan Wellman Obituary

Allan David Wellman, 80, of Aberdeen SD passed away on April 7, 2024.  

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Aldersgate Church with Pastor Mike Waldrop officiating.

A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the service at the church hall.

Per his wishes, Allan was laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Aberdeen, SD, on April 10, 2024.

Allan David Wellman was born on October 13, 1943, to Albert and Violet (Mistelski) Wellman. He was the eldest of 10 children.

He married Arlene Sperle in 1963. They later divorced in 1988.

After graduating from Aberdeen Central High School in 1962, Allan embarked on a varied career path. He initially worked on the Minute Man Missel Silos in Minot, ND, before returning to Aberdeen. There, he worked as a painter and general contractor while pursuing higher education at Northern State University. Later, he joined his father in the family business, operating a meat packing plant in Groton, SD, which they expanded to Aberdeen.

In 1972, Allan seized a new opportunity by founding Wellman Construction, focusing on road construction and heavy equipment operation. Throughout his life, Allan’s dedication to equipment and machinery was not merely a profession but a true passion.

Allan is survived by his children: DeeAnn Wellman of Sioux Falls, SD, Shelley (David) Born of Sheridan, WY, Kevin (Paula) Wellman of Aberdeen, SD, Lance Wellman of Phoenix, AZ, Jody Wellman of Sioux Falls, SD, Sheryl Holt of Sioux Falls SD, Kirk (Trish) Wellman of Sioux Falls SD and Derrick Wellman of Sioux Falls SD. Allan is also survived by his siblings Linn Wellman, Ilene Helmer, LaReta Keppert, Albert Wellman, and Anita Horecka. He has several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his siblings: Marlene Schmidt, Alonda Wittenburg, Alvin Wellman, and Arlin Wellman.
