Ashley, ND-Funeral service for Reinhold Hochhalter, 86, of Ashley will be 11:00 am, Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley.  The Rev. Sharon Korsmo will officiate.        

 

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Ashley.

 

There will be a prayer service at 7:00 pm with visitation from 2-7 pm at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service at the church. 

 

He died Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the Ashley Medical Center.          

 

Reinhold Hochhalter, son of Emanuel and Marie Magdalena (Ketterling) Hochhalter was born August 20, 1923 on the family homestead 3 1/2 miles west of Wishek in McIntosh County, ND.  He attended country school and worked as a hired hand on neighbor’s farms. 

 

He was united in marriage to Elsie LaVina Sackmann on October 20, 1946 ten miles east of Ashley in Peace Lutheran Church.  They made their home on LaVina’s family homestead ten miles east of Ashley where they farmed with his in-laws for two years.  They then took over the operation raising small grains and livestock.  They moved into Ashley in the early 1990’s and continued to farm from town for a few years.

 

Reinhold enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and vegetable gardening.  Fishing was also an enjoyable pastime.  He loved showing and working with livestock, it was always of interest to him even in his retirement.   

 

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was a past council member.  Also a former member of Peace Lutheran Church where he had been a Deacon and custodian. He was also a former member of American Short Horn Association and McIntosh County Ag Improvement Association. 

 

Survivors include his wife of Ashley, two sons, Kenneth (Bonnie) Hochhalter of Arthur, ND and Keith (Vicki) Hochhalter of Ashley, one brother, Calvin (Verna) Hochhalter of Wishek, two sisters, LuElla Meidinger and Lea Just, both of Wishek, one sister-in-law, Lorrene Hochhalter of Wishek, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

 

His parents, one brother, Gottfried and one infant grandson preceded him in death.

 

Honorary Casketbearers will be Reinhold’s family and friends.

 

Casketbearers will be Kevin Hochhalter, Martin Hochhalter, Joseph Hochhalter, Nichol Sorvaag, Adam Hochhalter and Hope Hochhalter. 

 

The organist will be Donna Heupel and the Ashley Men’s Quartet will sing.
