Wahpeton, ND-Funeral service for Anna M. Maier, 99, of Wahpeton and formerly of Ashley, ND will be 11:00 am, Friday, January 29, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley.  The Rev. Sharon Korsmo will officiate.

 

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Ashley.

 

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

 

She died Sunday, January 24, 2010 at St. Francis Healthcare Campus in Breckenridge, MN.            

 

Anna M. Hoffman, daughter of Johannes and Christina (Walz) Hoffman was born April 27, 1910 in Coldwater District in McIntosh County, ND. 

 

She was united in marriage to Fred G. Maier on March 24, 1929 at Forbes, ND.  They farmed near Ashley until 1952, when they moved into Ashley.  She completed a course to be a Licensed Practical Nurse and was one of the first employees when McIntosh County Memorial Hospital opened.  In 1957, they bought the motel and operated it as the A and F Motel.  Her husband died February 7, 1987.  Later, she resided in an apartment at the Ashley Medical Center.  In June of 1999, she moved to the Leach Retirement Home in Wahpeton to be near her daughters.  She continued an active life participating in all activities at the Leach Home. 

 

Anna would crochet and quilt, giving items to friends, family and charity.  She maintained a positive outlook and had a good sense of humor.

 

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Anna Circle.  She helped in the church thrift shop and with quilting.     

 

Survivors include one daughter, Lenora Harrison of Wahpeton, one step-daughter, Annetta Nies of Wahpeton, one sister, Maggie Dollinger of Bismarck, one brother, Gottlieb J. Hoffman of Ashley, one grandson, Sid (Carol) Harrison of Fargo, a family friend, Gerald Stewart, and many nieces and nephews.

 

Her parents, husband, two brothers, John and Jacob, five sisters, Carolina Hoffman, Bertha Fregien, Emelia Maier, Johanna Maier and Loretta Dollinger, a granddaughter-in-law, Mary Jo Langenwalter Harrison, and two sons-in-law, Stewart Harrison and Roland Nies preceded her in death.

 

The organist will be Steve Glaesmann and the soloist is Lana Christmann.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Ashley Medical Center, PO Box 450, Ashley, ND 58413.
