Calvin Dais

Eureka, SD-Funeral service for Calvin Dais, 85, of Eureka will be 10:30 am, Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Eureka United Methodist Church.  The Rev. Bob Duemig will officiate.                

 

Burial will be in Church of God (7th Day) Cemetery, rural Eureka. 

 

Visitation is Wednesday from 3-6 pm at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

 

He died Sunday, January 31, 2010 in a farming accident. 

 

Calvin Dais, son of George and Mary (Nies) Dais was born October 5, 1924 on the family homestead.  He attended country school and worked on the family farm.

 

He was united in marriage to LouElla Schnabel on November 16, 1947 in the Congregational Church 12 miles east and 2 miles north of Eureka.  They made their home and farmed northeast of Eureka, where they were general farmers raising small grains and livestock.  His family has continued the family tradition of farming the same land for the past 132 years.  His wife died on April 4, 2008.

 

Calvin was a farmer through and through.  He lived and breathed farm life from early morning to nightfall and beyond many many times.   

 

He was a member of Church of God (7th Day), where he was a Deacon, song leader, Master of Ceremony, church board member and Elder for many years.  He was a strong prayer warrior. 

 

Survivors include one son, Lloyd (BJ) Dais of Eureka, three brothers, Walter (Edna) Dais of Eureka, Milbert (Bernice) Dais of Aberdeen and LeRoy (Hope) Dais of Denver, CO, two sisters, Alice Meier of Aberdeen and Mabel (Lee) Cory of Marion, IA, two grandchildren, Shane Dais of Eureka and Tracy (Matthew) Schou of Omaha, NE and one great-grandchild, Jenna Heilman. 

 

His parents, wife, two brothers, Aaron and Marvin and one infant sister, Darlene preceded him in death.

 

Casketbearers will be Clarence Dais, Don Dais, Kenny Stickelmyer, Joel Sayler, Lester Dais and Dennis Pfeifle.          

 

The organist will be Ramona Rau and there will be solo’s by Jenna Heilman and Ronda Lapp.

BJ, Lloyd and family, I was very saddened to hear about Calvin. Him and Louella were such great people. I alway enjoyed visiting with them when they would come to Ashley on a parts run! May God bless you during your difficult times. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Lloyd, BJ and family, Our prayers are with you at this difficult time. We will remember Calvin for his love of his family and his life on the farm. He was a special man and had a special smile. May the love of God, family and friends give you peace in the days ahead. As a cousin of Amelia she always loved the time Calvin and LuElla shared with her they meant so much to her and Alfred.
