Loa LaVeve Meyer

  10/19/1931 - 3/3/2010

Webster, SD-A celebration of Loa’s life will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church at Browns Valley, MN.

Inurnment will be held privately at a later date.

She was called home by her Savior on March 3, 2010 at Bethesda Home of Webster at the age of 78.

Loa LaVeve Jacobsen., daughter of Lawrence and Vadna (Schwinger) Jacobsen was born on October 19, 1931 on their farm near Parker, SD.  The family moved to the head of Big Stone Lake near Browns Valley when she was 12 years old.  He graduated Salutatorian from Browns Valley High School in June of 1949.  She attended Northern State Teacher’s College in Aberdeen, SD during the summer sessions.  For two years, she taught eight grades in a one room school house in Roberts County.

She met her husband, Clarence, when it was his family’s turn to provide transportation for the teacher.  After an event filled courtship, they were married July 5, 1951 and settled down to farming.  Loa went to work at Traverse Café to supplement their income for a growing family.  She later worked at the Union State Bank where she stayed for 30 some years.  She left the bank to pursue a new career and worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide at the Browns Valley Nursing Home.  She also helped her husband with his gardens and lawn care business.  After retiring, they lived for a period of time in Missouri.

Loa loved her Lord and church as Sunday school teacher, superintendent, LWML and other positions as needed. The American Legion Auxiliary and the Browns Valley Alumni Association were two of Loa’s favorite organizations to work with.  Later after cancer treatments she would also be involved with Relay for Life.  She loved to travel and went to Germany and Austria.  Most of all, she enjoyed traveling in the States ensuring that her grandchildren were included as often as possible – always wanting to see what was over the next hill.  She also enjoyed gardening and could always be called

upon, at the drop of a hat, to play cards.

She will be remembered with love by her daughters, Mary Keith (and friend, Jerry) of Roslyn, SD and Shirley (Joe) Foren of Browns Valley, MN, two sisters, two brothers, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Her parents, husband, one son and two brothers preceded her in death.

Just a note to let you know I feel for you losing now your second parent. Wish I could be there as you remember her life; but unfortunately, we are busy this weekend with baptismal plans. Tim our youngest is having his second daughter, Lucille, baptized on Sunday and Matt and family came out already yesterday from Watertown. We can all rejoice now that Loa is with her Lord and will suffer no more pain. Will be thinking of you. Love, Harriet (Meyer) Roberts
