He died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Ashley Medical Center.

Roger Klipfel, son of Julius and Ruth (Haerter) Klipfel was born March 4, 1935 southwest of Ashley in McIntosh County, ND.  His journey then began.  He grew up and attended school in the Ashley area.  After school, Roger worked several construction jobs before he returned to take over the family farm.

He was united in marriage to Erna Pfeifle on June 29, 1958 in Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley.  They began farming and raising a family.  They continued to farm southeast of Ashley until 1998, when they then moved to Ashley.

Roger worked hard to promote and improve the community of Ashley.  He served 12 years as a McIntosh County Commissioner and was active in the Ashley Jaycees and Ashley Lions.  He served on the board of the Ashley Medical Center and Opportunities

Inc.  He also served several terms on the Zion Lutheran Church council.  He was active in Lake Hoskins Improvement and Coldwater Wildlife Club.

Roger loved to gather with family and friends.  He enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes.  People looked forward to tasting the variety of wonderful sausage that he made.  He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed processing the game nearly as much as the hunt itself.  He loved spending quality time with his grandchildren, teaching them the enjoyable things in life.  He liked to tinker and was an avid rock collector.  Roger enjoyed life.   His legacy lies in his adoring family and the many community improvements that he was a part of.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Deborah (Todd) Salzer of Dickinson, ND, three sons, Bradley (Teresa) Klipfel of Beulah, ND, Jeffrey (Jackie) Klipfel of Ashley and Jason (Denise) Klipfel of Mandan, ND, two sisters, LuCeil Opp of Eureka and Joanne Goebel of Petaluma, CA, one step-brother, Roman (Arlene) Groszhans of Ashley, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Erna & Family, Your lose is a lose we all share with you. Roger was a great man one who I thought a great deal of. I remember the good times I had at Uncle Julius’ farm during my high school years, particularly the evening Roger was going to have a bottle of the home made beer which he figured was the best in the land and which promptly blew up when he opened the bottle - so much for his beer. His happy spirit and great humor were enjoyed by all. We will all cherish his memory. God Bless you all.

Erna & family: My deepest sympathy to you as you lay your dear husband & father to rest. I remember Roger's sense of humor, his greeting, "Hello, Jo", and his Heaven help me. He always made me laugh! Life dealt all of you a hard hand to play. Like my father, he is in a better place and you showed him the ultimate love. God's peace to you.
