Ashley, ND-Funeral service for Albert Golz, 93, of Ashley will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Carlsen Funeral Home in Ashley. The Rev. Sharon Korsmo will officiate.

Burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery with military graveside rites by Frank Piper American Legion Post #53.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Albert died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Albert Golz, son of John and Mathilda (Wolf) Golz was born November 13, 1918 northwest of Venturia, ND. He started school at Venturia, also attending grade school in Kulm, ND. He was a high school graduate of Lehr, ND Public School. He taught country school for two years. In 1936, he rode a train car as a Hobo from Lehr to Idaho.

He was united in marriage to Fern Irene Nagel on August 25, 1938 at Nampa, Idaho. They had two children, Bruce and Nancy. He worked picking cherries, working in hay fields and then as a commercial Buttermaker in Nampa, ID for 3 ½ years. He was also a ship fitter in the ship yards at Vancouver, Washington for eight months. Albert was a World War II veteran serving two years in the United States Army as a Supply Sergeant. From 1954 to 1956, he purchased The Ashley Shoe and Canvas repair shop. Albert and Fern also had the Ashley Café for a year after moving back to North Dakota in 1970. In 1971, they moved to Jamestown, ND where Albert worked for Stutsman County as Partsman for ten years.

Albert was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Frank Piper American Legion Post #53. He was also a member of the Ashley Country Club and enjoyed the game of golf. He was lucky enough to have a “Hole in one” twice.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy (Wayne) Lippert of Ashley, one daughter-in-law, LaNita Golz of Ashley, three grandsons, Marlon (Cathy) Lippert, Todd (Cherri) Lippert and Link Golz, all of Ashley, two granddaughters, Tina (Tim) Gannon of Mandan, ND and Tara (Todd) Lien of Sioux Falls, SD, 13 great-grandchildren, Samantha Lippert, Cody Lippert, Jadyn Lippert, Tristan Lippert and Jacey Lippert, all of Ashley. Tallon Lippert and Tasha Salzer, both of Bismarck, Ryan Salzer of Minneapolis, MN, Bryce Lien and Coby Lien, both of Sioux Falls, SD and John Gannon, Jessie Gannon and Kayse Gannon, all of Mandan and two great-great-granddaughters, Olivia Arlien and Everly Arlien, both of Ashley.

His wife, Fern (5-4-2003), son, Bruce (1-6-2011), one brother, Eddie and one sister, Clara preceded him in death.

Casketbearers will be Tim Gannon, Cody Lippert, Tallon Lippert, Jadyn Lippert, Link Golz and Bryce Lien.

Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.
