Alvina died June 20, 2022, at Avera Eureka Health Care Center.

Alvina Helena was born April 21, 1930, to Rudolph and Helena (Schlepp) Walther on the family homestead near Java, SD. Her mother died when she was six years old. She was raised by her uncle and aunt, Mike and Anna Schmierer.

Alvina was united in marriage to Albert Quenzer on March 20, 1949, in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java, SD. The made their home on the Quenzer farm in 1950, where they farmed until their retirement in the Fall of 1997 when they moved into Eureka. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Sylvia, Harley, Jeanie, and James. Over the years, Alvina was always by Albert’s side. They were a true love story, and the family knows he was waiting at Heaven’s gate for her.

Alvina was the cornerstone of her family, the one that held the family close and a guiding light for them to look to. A legacy of strength and determination balanced equally with love and compassion - she had the biggest heart, in the tiniest woman. She enjoyed her flowers, quilting, and baking, especially kuchen that she shared with friends and family.

Alvina was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Germans from Russia.

Grateful and blessed for having shared Alvina’s life are her daughters, Sylvia Hauge of Eureka, and Jeanie (Terry) Hoffman of Leola; son, Harley Quenzer of Rapid City; eight grandchildren, Jodi (Mike) Feist, Lisa (Kevin) Ham, Patsy (Dennis) Lehr, Dawn Hauge, Bradley (Crystal) Quenzer, Toby (Karen) Ackerman, Ryan (Amber) Ackerman, and Dena (Reid) Johnson; 18 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Alvina was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Albert (6-16-2017), son, James (4-18-2021), grandson, Brian Quenzer (10-1-2020) and nine siblings.

Honorary Casketbearers will be Jodi Feist, Lisa Ham, Patsy Lehr, Dawn Hauge, Dena Johnson, Crystal Quenzer, Dennis Lehr, Karen Ackerman, and Amber Ackerman.

Casketbearers will be Brad Quenzer, Toby Ackerman, Ryan Ackerman, Mike Feist, Kevin Ham, and Reid Johnson.
