Arnold E. Dennert Jr. was born July 4th, 1931 to Arnold Sr. and Grace (Steffen) Dennert in Aberdeen, SD.  He grew up on their Farm near Westport, graduated from Barnard High School, and continued farming with his father.  Bud married Darlene Mattson of Fond du Lac, WI in 1951.  After several years of living and working on the family farm, they purchased their own farm just outside of Westport where they continued farming and raising their family.  Other than winters spent in Arizona, this farm was home until health issues took him to Ellendale in the fall of 2021.
Bud’s passion was plowed into his fields and lavished on his beloved Black Angus cattle.  He told many people, “I never worked a day in my life” because he enjoyed everything he did.  His family will remember life lessons taught through his advice and his actions.
Bud loved almost any dog he met, with a special favorite being his last dog Jake.  When wintering in Arizona made having a dog more difficult, he shared that affection with their housecats, especially Mr. Garfield!  Bud was an avid collector.  More fun than the collections themselves, (especially for his antique John Deere’s) was driving around the country, spotting an old tractor, and talking to whoever owned it.  He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing, telling a good story, and chocolate chip cookies.  He was a member of the Masons and had belonged to the Shrine Horse Patrol.  Bud is survived by his wife Darlene of Westport, children Corrinne (John) Lovett of Hitchcock, Sherry Dennert, Linda (Alvin) Perrigo of Rapid City, Arnold III (Belinda) Dennert of Westport, and Grandchildren Andrew, Eric, Erin, Elizabeth, James, and Rebecca.  He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant Granddaughter, Grace.
