Delbert A. Bertsch

Delbert A. Bertsch, 82, West Fargo, ND passed away Tuesday, January 17th, 2023.

 Cheese and crackers, crackers and cheese. 

Delbert Arthur Bertsch was born April 14, 1940 in Ashley, ND to Arthur and Elsie (Maier) Bertsch.  He grew up in Ashley, ND and graduated from Ashley High School.  Delbert married his high school sweetheart, Judy Bietz, on August 28th, 1960.  Del continued his education at UND Ellendale Branch where he was a member of the Dusties football team and earned a Social Studies teaching degree.  Upon graduation, Judy and Del begin their teaching and coaching profession in Bowden, ND.  From Bowden, they continued their teaching careers in Gackle, ND, Gettsyburg, SD, and Ellendale, ND.  While in Ellendale, Del was hired as the high school principal and assumed this role until he transitioned to a loan officer position with the First National Bank.  He worked at the bank until his retirement.

Del was very active in service and civic organizations.  He served as president of Christ the King Lutheran Church, president of the Quarterback Club, a member of the Dickey County Fair Board, and proudly served as Mayor of Ellendale for many years.  Del was an active member of the Yelduz Shriners (Aberdeen, SD) and served as Potentate in 1999.  Del enjoyed serving and helping others.

Of all the roles that Del held in his life, he was extremely proud and grateful to be a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  In addition, he loved to tell jokes, laugh, watch his favorite professional sport teams (Green Bay Packers and Boston Red Sox), and share a kind word and smile.

Del is survived by his wife, Judy; sister Donna (James); 2 sons Todd (Michelle) and Jason; grandchildren Tyler, Andrew, Erin (Sean), Kirsten (Joseph), Brianna, Josh, Carly, and Heidi (Ryan); and 8 great grandchildren.

 Del is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Victoria (Vicky). 

 Memorials are preferred to the Shriners organization.

 Gathering and celebration of life:  Saturday, January 21st @ 11:00 – 1:00 PM at New Perspective in West Fargo.  Burial at a later date at Ashley, ND.
