Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Della died July 9, 2022, at Avera Eureka Health Care Center.

Della was born January 19, 1935, at a farmhouse near Greenway, SD to Edward and Frieda (Joachim) Pfeiffer. They later moved to a farm 5 ½ miles NE of Eureka. Della was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church. As a child she and her siblings were involved in doing many of the farm chores. At an early age Della knew farm life was not meant for her future. She attended country school through the 8th grade. The family then moved to Eureka so the children could attend high school. Della graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1952. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the local hospital until she decided to attend the NW Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, MN to become a lab technician. After she graduated, she was employed at St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen until she accepted employment at the McIntosh Clinic in Eureka. She worked there for 25 years and then moved on to work for the Eureka Community Hospital until she retired in 1997. All together she worked in Eureka for 43 years and three months.

Della was united in marriage to LeRoy Kary on December 4, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church. With this union they had two children, Kyle Edward, and Kimberly Ann.

Della enjoyed bowling for many years but gave it up to attend the children’s sports and band events. She also enjoyed reading and playing bridge. She loved watching Duke Basketball. Her most precious memories were when she was able to spend time with her grandchildren. She dearly loved them all. She hopes they will always remember her for the dough food and Christmas cookies.

Grateful for having shared Della’s life are her son, Kyle (Amy) Kary of Aberdeen; daughter, Kimberly Kary-Samson of Kona, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Jordan Kary, Joshua Kary, Hailey Samson, and Conner Samson; sister, Arley Trautman of Eureka; brother and sister-in-law, Jerome (Joyce) Pfeiffer of Aberdeen; step-siblings, Merle (Betty) Kost of Aberdeen, Mavis Knoepfle and Dianna (Gordon) Quashnick of Herreid; and sisters-in-law, Della M. Kary of Aberdeen and Bonnie Kary of Eureka.

Preceding her in death are her husband, LeRoy (3-17-2011), parents, Edward Pfeiffer, and Frieda Pfeiffer Kost and step-father, Theodore Kost.
