Aberdeen, SD-Funeral Service for Dr. Carlton Kom, 85, of Aberdeen will be 11:00 am, Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. Rev. D.T. Rawerts will officiate. The service will be live streamed at www.Carlsenfh.com under Carlton’s obituary.
Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park, Aberdeen.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 27th from 9:30-11:00 am prior to the service at the church.
Carlton died August 18, 2022, at Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center.
Carlton, son of Clarence and Emilia (Albrecht) Kom was born July 3, 1937, in Heil, ND. He lived there as a young child and when he was six years old, his family moved to Mobridge, SD. Carlton graduated in 1955 from Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge. He then enlisted into the United States Navy, serving for four years. After his honorable discharge he attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, University of South Dakota in Vermillion and completed his Doctorate in Medicine Degree at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.
Carlton then re-entered the United States Navy and served as a naval officer and physician. After 13 years of service, he left the navy and worked a short time in Florida, but soon relocated to Aberdeen where he had a urology practice for the next 30 years until his retirement.
Carlton loved woodworking, making several pieces of children’s furniture and kitchen sets, clocks, cedar chests and glider rockers. He also helped build one of his sibling’s homes. Carlton was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Aberdeen.
Grateful for having shared Carlton’s life are his siblings, Harvey (Berniece) Kom of Lewiston, ID, Marlow (Carol) Kom of Woodbury, MN, Ceniva Kom of Aberdeen, SD, Reinhart (Delaine) Kom of Big Bend, WI, Donald (Barbara) Kom of Fond du Lac, WI, and Charlene (Bill) Stewart of De Pere, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Honorary Casketbearers will be Carlton’s brothers and sisters.
