George died January 21, 2021 at Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale.

George Richard Rodlund, son of Nathaniel and Helen (Thomas) Rodlund was born February 22, 1940 in Milnor, ND.  While growing up, his family moved to several North Dakota communities.  In 1956, they settled in Ellendale where he attended Ellendale High School, graduating with the class of 1958.  He enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Lee, VA serving as a maintenance mechanic.  Following his honorable discharge in 1960 he returned to Ellendale.  He was then employed with Redlin Implement/Hirds Implement.

He was united in marriage to Leane Puhlmann on December 26, 1964 in St. Helena Catholic Church.  They made their home in Ellendale.  In 1984, George took a position in sales with Visto’s Implement in Oakes, ND.  In 1986 he was appointed as a Deputy Sheriff in Dickey County.  He then returned to Ag equipment sales in 1988.  George retired in 2005.

George enjoyed time to simply relax.  He liked going for walks, especially long walks.  He faithfully read the newspaper and watched game shows on television and listened to country music.  He will be remembered for always telling Dad jokes.  George loved ice cream and butterscotch hard candy and was willing to share with others.  He was a member of St. Helena Catholic Church and Herman-Schlinker American Legion Post #137.

Grateful for having shared George’s life are his wife, Leane of 56 years; daughter, Rebecca (Wade) Kappenman of Aberdeen; sons, Troy (Stacy) Rodlund of Lakeville, MN, and Geffrey Rodlund of Ellendale; sisters, Diane (Jerry) Hammer of Aberdeen and Kathleen (Larry) Gatz of Watertown, SD; brother, Jim (Jennie) Rodlund of Stillwater, MN; half-brother, Henry (Romy) Illies of Oakes, ND; five grandchildren, Christopher, Megan, Jacob, William, and Nathan and two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Kaia.
