Janice Kay Schumacher

Venturia, ND-Funeral service for Janice Kay Schumacher, 65, of Venturia will be 11:00 am Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley.  Pastor Dale Burling will officiate.  The service will be live streamed and available at www.Carlsenfh.com under Janice’s obituary.    

Burial will be in Ashley City Cemetery.

There will be a prayer service at 7:30 pm Monday with visitation from 5:00-7:30 pm at the funeral home. 

Janice died April 27, 2021 at her home from cancer. 

Janice Kay Halstead was born November 28, 1955 to Donald and Helen (Annis) Halstead in Minot, ND.  Janice attended grade and high school in Maxbass, ND and two years of college in Bottineau, ND.  She was filled with the Holy Ghost when she was around 19 years of age and a few years later was baptized by immersion in the wonderful name of Jesus.

Janice moved to Jamestown after college and worked for Lucas Western Inc.  She also taught Sunday School at the Pentecostal Church in Jamestown.  She was known for giving her Sunday school children a penny a line if they took notes in church.  This was also to get them to listen, retain more of the sermon and keep them quiet.

She was united in marriage to Richard Schumacher on November 7, 1992 in Jamestown.  They made their home on Richard’s farm.  Janice loved memorizing the Bible and reading books.  During her final days at home with Hospice, Theresa Halstead and Richard gave loving care to Janice.  She was very much appreciative of them and of all who came to visit her.        

Grateful for having shared Janice’s life are her husband of 27 ½ years, Richard; brothers and sisters, MaryAnn Halstead, Donald Jr. (Theresa) Halstead, Richard (Dee) Halstead, Lillian Dahms, Delores (Ed) Ohlhauser, and Patty (Terry) Hoyt; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lucille Raile, Leo (MaryJane) Schumacher, Rose (John) Hulm, Alvin (Donna) Schumacher, Anna (Bob) Feist, Allen Baumann, Marlene (Kevin) Staebner, Alfred Schumacher, Antone (Barb) Schumacher, Gilbert (Deb) Schumacher and Sharon (Kevin) Paulson and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Helen, brother, Charles Halstead, parents-in-law, John and Mary Schumacher, brother-in-law, Gideon Raile and sister-in-law, Alice Baumann.    

Casketbearers will be Bobby Hunter, Noah Alderin, Albert Schumacher, Jordan Pfeifer, Jerry Meier, and Chris Schumacher. 

The eulogist will be Patty Hoyt and special music by Theresa Halstead and Lillian Dahms.     

Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.
