Joan G Gilbertson

Joan Gloris Gilbertson, 79, of Aberdeen, SD passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.   Memorial service will be 2:00pm, Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Aberdeen with Reverend Leland Armbright officiating.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior at the church.

Joan was born April 2nd, 1943 in Webster, SD to Julius and Gladys (Aadland) Haugen. She had one sister, AnnMarie Johnson.

Joan attended country school near Roslyn until moving to Webster in the 8th grade. She graduated from Webster High School in 1961. During high school, she worked at the A&W Restaurant. After high school she worked for REA in Webster.

In December of 1963 she married Arthur Allen Gilbertson in Webster, SD. Arthur was in the U.S. Army which put them in different locations including Fort Polk Louisiana, Mannheim Germany, Fort Benning Georgia and Fort Bragg North Carolina, during their 10 year marriage. In 1964, they had their only child, Gregory, at Ft. Polk Louisiana.

Joan started working for Dakota Midland Hospital on April 15, 1974. Dakota Midland was purchased by St. Luke’s Hospital in 1987. She started working for St. Luke’s Hospital shortly after the purchase. Joan Retired from Avera St. Luke’s Hospital on December 31, 2015.

Joan enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, sitting out on the patio, and going out to eat.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents Julius and Gladys Haugen and her sister AnnMarie Johnson.
